There are around 350 different species of parrots in the world. Many of them are kept in captivity due to their beautiful colors and intelligent and playful nature. Here is a list of the 10 most beautiful colorful parrots in the world.

1. Cockatoo galerita

This is a large and beautiful parrot species, known for its distinctive sulfur-yellow crest. They can be found in Australia, New Guinea, and Indonesia. They are generally 17-25 inches tall and have white plumage.

Male and female birds are almost the same. However, they have different colored eyes: females have reddish-brown eyes while males have dark brown eyes. They also have a wide variety of loud squawks.

They can live up to 70 years and make their nests in tree holes. They feed mainly on seeds, nuts, roots, and berries.

2. Black or catarnica parrot

These medium-sized parrots are native to South America. Its plumage is mostly dark purple or blue in coloration, but they have a bronze patch on their wings, hence its name.

They are sociable, intelligent and playful birds, which is why they are considered a great pet. With proper training, they can learn to imitate human voices. In the wild, they live in tree cavities and the female bird lays three or four eggs with an incubation period of 36 days.

3. Shadow Lori

These extremely playful and active birds are some of the world’s most popular pet parrots. They can imitate human speech very well and also enjoy interacting with people. They come from Papua New Guinea and are also known as white-rumped loris.

These parrots are only 9.5 inches tall and weigh 300 grams. Male and female birds are alike and have a bright orange upper chest, gray legs, a cream-colored rump, and a dark orange beak. Their diet consists of fruits, seeds, and nectar.

4. Galah Cockatoo

These beautiful birds are easily identified thanks to their pink chests and faces. Galahs are also known as pink cockatoos. They are found in all regions of Australia in large flocks.

They can measure up to 14 inches and weigh 270-350 grams. The tops of their heads and tails are gray. The male and the female look alike, but can be distinguished by their eyes: dark brown in males and pinkish-red in females.

5. Blue and Yellow Macaw

This species of parrot is native to South America. They live in humid forests and swamps. Their striking colors and their ability to speak make blue and yellow macaws one of the most popular parrots to keep as pets.

They are extremely sociable, intelligent, and love to interact with people and learn different tricks.

6. African gray

This is the smartest talking parrot in the world. As the name implies, African grays are endemic to the Congo in Africa and are gray in color. Its wingspan is 46-52 cm in length and the male and female birds are alike.

7. Parrot of the sun

This attractive bird is endemic to South America. They are yellow, red, orange, blue and green. Like many other parrot species on this list, both male and female are alike.

They live in groups of up to thirty birds and feed on fruits, nuts, berries, and flowers.

8. Scarlet Macaw

These large parrots inhabit the rain forests of Central and South America. They are known for their attractive plumage.

These are highly intelligent birds and with the proper training, they can learn a wide range of tricks. They can even recognize different shapes and colors. They also have a long life expectancy, between 40-50 years.

9. Hyacinth macaw

With a wingspan of 40 inches, the Hyacinth Macaw is the largest species of flying parrot in the world. They are endangered and are now found mainly in southern Brazil. They have bright blue plumage and a large bill.
